The clinical issues surrounding bringing Communion to the sick in a hospital setting are many. These include patient confidentiality (HIPAA), infection control, integrating the distribution of Holy Communion with other hospital functions and staff, differences and similarities between hospitals where visits to the sick are made, as well as understanding posted signage affecting how to do so, such as NPO (nothing by mouth), HOH (hard of hearing), aspiration precautions, etc. On three consecutive Saturdays, May 6, 13, and 20 from 10 am -Noon, hospital-specific training for Clergy and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist who visit acute care facilities will be provided at Saint Vincent Hospital beginning in the hospital chapel located on the ground floor (or Level One) on the South Side of Worcester Medical Center, 123 Summer Street. Contact Msgr. Peter Beaulieu at 508-363-6246 or Fr. Francis Roach at 774-443-2466 for more information or to register.
