Guilia Biagetti, organist of the Cathedral of San Martino in Lucca, Italy, will play a recital at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester, on Wednesday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m. The recital, which is Mrs. Biagetti’s American debut, is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the Worcester Chapter of The American Guild of Organists (WorcAGO, www.worcesterago.org).
Mrs. Biagetti, great-granddaughter of early 20th century concert pianist and Franz Liszt student Emil von Sauer, was invited by guild member Leonardo Ciampa, who holds music posts both in Worcester and Italy, and suggested Worcester and OLA church to begin the American leg of her concert tour.
Our Lady of the Angels is home to an impressive pipe organ, build in 1985 by the J. W. Walker & Sons Co. of England. According to OLA organist, Kurt Blomstrom, it is a classic organ with mechanical (tracker) playing action and a broad tonal palette of 40 stops across three manuals and pedal, all in a stunning gallery case.
Guilia Biagetti’s program, “Contrasts: Small Jewels and Organ Fireworks,” will feature a mix of classic and contemporary works, including some based on familiar hymn tunes.
