Employment Transition Program
The Program will provide some financial assistance to eligible workers in diocesan and parish employment who become unemployed through no fault of their own and who are actively looking for a full-time job. This is a 20 week benefit program which was developed by the diocese because our employees are not eligible for unemployment benefits from the Commonwealth. The program is administered for the diocese by Corporate Cost Control. This transitional assistance is provided to eligible lay and Religious employees. Contact the Payroll Office for an application.
MASSACHUSETTS UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION
Working in the employ of the Diocese of Worcester is considered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a service performed in the employ of a church and thereby is excluded by Section 6(r) of the Massachusetts Employment Security Law. This is most important. The Diocese of Worcester, therefore, cannot report employee wages and pay contributions there on to the Massachusetts Division of Employment Security. No unemployment benefits are available to an employee upon termination of employment.
