It is with profound sadness that I ask the Catholic Community to pray for the repose of the soul of Father Dennis Rocheford. The Diocese of Worcester was blessed over the years through his priestly ministry in parishes in Worcester, Fitchburg, Hopedale, Clinton, Blackstone and North Oxford. Many members of the military were also comforted by his dedicated service as a Catholic chaplain whether in Iraq or at Naval and Marine Corps bases at home. May his soul rest in the peace of the Risen Christ. Father Rocheford’s death was tragic, but our faith teaches us that we must not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. May the loving support he received from so many in life be continued in our earnest prayers for him in death.

            I also ask for your prayers and support for the family members, friends, and fellow veterans of Fr. Rocheford who are dealing with this sudden and tragic loss. Many difficult days lie ahead for all those who loved and cared for Father Rocheford. Yet we must remember that we bring Christ’s compassion and hope to the world when we comfort one another with the assurances of our Christian faith.
            May our voices echo the prayer for all our departed brothers and sisters, and in particular, Father Rocheford. “May the angels lead you into paradise, the new and eternal Jerusalem.”
